Snow Lady

2008
01.30

dsc_0527.jpg

No no… I’m not the snow lady. :p It snowed again yesterday, quite heavily. But the snow didn’t last long, it stopped already late at night. And it’s more to wet snow, so it melts pretty fast. We took photos when we go out today, which I pretty like them all. :) By the way, Alvin’s Nikon D40X just discharged from hospital today, sent to our house 9.15am. :D Just in time!

Snow background… It’s very slippery and it’s wet! I already got my shoes wet a bit when we go out. Then you’ll feel you toes freezing cold, until you feel numb, that’s when your toes are frozen. huhhuu..

~~Geisha in Gion(祇園)~~

2008
01.26

img_0738.jpg

Here comes the highlight of the trip~~~~ Geisha! We came all the way, of course not just to see the shrines and temples, Geisha is our main mission here! Kyoto is claimed to be the only place where you can find Geisha. But I heard Nara (奈良) and Tokyo (东京) also got a few. Anyway, Kyoto is still the main focus of all. If you want to have a higher chance to come across with Geisha, you’ve got to come to this 花见小路, or Hanami-koji, a street lined by beautiful old buildings, teahouses and restaurants.

The geisha in the Gion(祇園) district do not refer to themselves as geisha(芸者); instead, Gion geisha use the local term geiko(芸妓). While the term geisha means “artist,” the more direct term geiko means specifically “a woman of art.” The common misunderstandings of the outside world towards Geisha is that they are high class prostitutes. But the fact is they are performers and not prostitutes.

Hai hai~ Finally back to our Kyoto Trip. Hehe.. Events coming up make me postponding on blogging about the trip. :) After the Chion’in Temple we made our way to Yasaka Shrine 八坂神社, which is just about 5 minutes walk from Chion’in Temple. Yasaka is the main focus of the famous Gion Festival. By the way, these two spots are actually in Gion area, which is the place we are going to meet Geisha. Hehe…

I found that Japanese like orange colour a lot… A lot of places we visited is using orange as the main colour. When we visit to the Imperial Palace (I’ll post that later) the guide told us that Japan was very much influenced by China’s culture in ancient time (I forgot which period of years la) and so this colour influence is also coming from China, but they ‘modified’ or they ‘prefer’ (I don’t know) into orange colour. I guess you don’t need me to remind you Chinese are very fond of red colour which is believed to bring luck and wealth. Same goes to Japanese fonding of orange colour.

Miyajima 宫岛 One Day Trip

2008
01.24

dsc_0384.jpg

Last Saturday, we went to Miyajima. Have been wanting to visit this place, as we’ve heard of it since we came to Japan. It’s one of the 3 most famous tourists spots in Japan. While it’s just nearby, so how could we miss it?

dsc_0325.jpg

But the pity part is that we missed the autumn season…. We sould have gone there during autumn as it’s famous for the wonderful and fantastic maple leaves scene in autumn. It was too late when we realise it. The leaves almost cleared off already.

Snowing Fever

2008
01.21

img_1814.jpg

Why fever? Cause people like us, who experience snow for the first time in life, get super excited with snow~! We kept on checking out the condition outside and taking endless photos. Haha.. :D

The snow didn’t stop from yesterday morning until this morning. In the evening it snowed even heavier. The scenery is simply white, the snow accumulating more and more everywhere.

img_1825.jpg

Until last night, the snow had accumulated up to I think less than 10cm thick. Ooh~ I really wonder if it snow heavily, how are the people going out? Look at the car, I don’t know how the owners clear them.
