It’s Flooding…. AGAIN

2009
01.31

Grabbed from forum.  This is taken just this noon!  The bus station’s seats are gone.

Some people had too push their car… dead in the middle of the sea.  And some already starting to sail along the way~!

This is the army camp site.

Can you see the car far away?  Only a small part left before saying goodbye.

And those well experienced are making their way on boats already!

What a wise choice to keep a boat at home~

The boats are now at the same level as cars….

I wonder how much loss is this going to be this time.  Its already a GREAT flood last year, or every year, and year by year it just happen over and over again.  What a shame.  Sibu can become the next Venice!

Meeting Old Friends~

2009
01.30

Sam visited us twice and we had some nice time chatting.  It’s always good to catch up with old friends~  Its been a while I’ve not talked so much. Haha~

Ris only back to Sibu on second day of CNY, and we were leaving sibu on the third day, so we only can meet up on the night of Tuesday. ~

Just a gathering. As we are getting lazy to visit one by one but just merely a gathering at one person’s house enough.

The J.I.A. in line~  It’s been like one year plus since we have the JIA gathering.

Ame lying comfortably on Ris.  :p

The others were late, so we had some photographing sessions first.  That’s long-time-no-see Elvis~

And Charlene who just did her hair

A group photo of everyone.  That’s Margaret, Dora & Doris.  :)   The busybodies chatted till 11sth at night!

The Lion Dance~

2009
01.26

Every year, we’ll have a group of students from ‘Gong Ming’ Secondary School 公民中学 coming to play the lion dance.

The red red red lion~!

Dancing vigorously

Elly’s first time watching it, and she’s so curious about it! I used to be afraid of the ‘lion’, but not now, of course. :)

The lion’s head is too big, it knocked at our lanterns!

We used to have them coming into the house, until the kitchen even.  Sort of like ‘blessings’? haha~  But now no more, make it simple and short.

Very short dance, and they’ll certainly reverse backwards and not making ‘U-turn’.  :D

A family photo that didn’t take last night. :)

The prawn is out of the picture as it came out late, so all together, 9 dishes.  and yet… There’s no CRAB@!!

Limited!

2009
01.23

We had 3 days orientation for the Form 1 students, the freshies in the school.  :)    During one of the day, we had this ‘registration for co-curriculum’.

This is the crowd that queued up for my counter.  :D   Oh ya, I am, of course, the head of the teacher advisor of Photography Club.  I was appointed to take photos of everything, and thus I can still wander about to take photos — lame excuses.  :p

The thing for this year’s freshies is, I felt sorry for them.  For some of us, we had to queue up and fight for life to squeeze into the club or society that we are interested in during uni time.  Places are limited.  Now this is happening here as well.  And they have further limitation…

Each society/club/uniform unit were given certain quota of students of each race.  They are doing this for the sake of the balance numbers of each races in the clubs so that not only one race conquering a particular unit, which is good in a sense, but bad news for students.  :p

While I’m taking this photo, the limited places in my club was gone long ago and my student was telling them the ‘sad news’.  For my part, 23 seats for M, 5 seats for C, 6 seats for I and 2 for others.  I don’t know how they calculate it, don’t ask me.  :p

And for those who can’t get what they want, you just have to rush for your second option, which is normally full house as well, and you might just end up with something you are not interested with… for the rest of the five years in the school.

I’m so glad we didn’t have to fight for it during our time.  :)

Surprised!

2009
01.20

Today I received a gift… from my student.

Chicken Essence!  Ok I was shocked.  It’s a Malay girl, she just passed it to me after class and saying her mom gave it to me as CNY gift.  And I went blank for few moments and she left.

Wow~  That’s only the beginning of the thrid week of the school and I’m receiving a hald dozen of chicken essence from my student?  Gosh, I’m feeling like receiving bribery.  Well of course I don’t think they are thinking that way in doing this.  Nevertheless, tomorrow I shall return it to her, and thank her (and parents) so much for the very kind intention, but I can’t accept it. :)

========================================

updates:

I’ve tried to convince her that I’m not suppose to accept such costly gift from students, but she still insisted to give it to me as its her parents’ ‘order’.  She did give to other Chinese teachers last year and also during her primary school time.  Seems like I’m the only one who’s ‘giving’ her ‘troubles’?

Well, in the end we had agreements that I’ll be sharing them with other teachers and not me alone, so she’s giving it to ‘us’ and not ‘me’, of which I feel much better then.  :)

I took one home, others all gave to other teachers.  :)
