Night Market

2009
12.30

page15

The Second day, we went on our own to the night market that we saw on our way back to AIT. Its just about 15 min journey on bus. Visiting a new place, of course we want to try something different and not just do some window shopping. Upon arriving all the food, food and food jumped into our sights.

page13

Again we walked around hunting for food that looks delicious, amazed at their variety of food. But not all are drooling, though. Some are just weird. :p Saw a little squirrel trapped in a cage. Is it going to be one of the food as well?

page12

Khanom Buang – just found the name from internet. This is crispy yet soft, sweet and mouth lingering~ Another famous Thai snacks.

page14

Thais love pork! Pork is just everywhere. And they eat all parts of pork.

page19

The bamboo rice, very good too. Found weird looking corns, didn’t smell nice so didn’t try it. :p

page20

Japanese food is everywhere, too. So sushi is of course another snack to be found.

page17

This one is really weird for me~~ They just mix everything and eat with some sauces. Ok I’ll never like this!

page23

The famour som tam, made of green papaya mixing various sauces and ingredients. Looks so sour to me.

page24

And some other stalls selling clothes, kichen utensils etc.

page18

This is a good one. Never saw this at other markets or eating place. We were attracted by the colours and tried to ask in sign language whether its edible or not. The cute lady just offered us some to try on our own! Its our candy floss/cotton candy (棉花糖) but in form of hair line. You can just place some of any colour you like on the popiah skin, wrap it anyhow you like, and there you go~ Its sweet, but with the popiah skin you don’t get cloyed that soon. :)    Did try to bring back, but its spoilt already by the time we reach Msia.

page3

The first day after the programme ended the postgrad student brought us to the shopping mall nearby AIT — Future Park. We can’t really communicate as their English is also ‘Sendirian Berhad’. :p

page5

First we explored the food in Future Park, the first item attracted us is this colourful fruit candies. I did come across this Thai dessert while I did research on Thailand. :p We bought a box to try it out, share among the few of us. Very good indeed, not too sweet and chewable. :D   Too bad I can’t bring them back! Anyone can buy some for me if you go? :p

This is called Luk Chup, Luk or Look means small objects and Chup or Choop means a type of coating. Look Choop was a Thai dessert that originated in the royal palaces of ancient Siam. It is said that the royal family members ate this candy which was shaped like small fruits and vegetables.

page9

Everyone bought different food, there’s just too many to be tried!

page6

Didn’t try all, of course. There are too many. I tried till forgetting how did they taste like. :p  The peddlers were laughing at us, and we had funny time trying to communicate with them, they hardly speak any English!

page7

Beautiful jellies!

page4

Other than food, basically we don’t find much thing to buy in Future Park. Its just like any other shopping mall back in Msia. We found that there are quite a number of gold stores in the mall, and all are of Big store.  It is heard that most gold stores are mostly controled by Thai-Chinese. Chinese are global businessmen, huh.

page21

A man doing handcraft. I saw cute piggy. :p

page22

We went out of the shopping complex to try more food. Street food is a must to try in Thailand. :) Not knowing what we are eating, we just try out whatever that looks nice. :)

Food

page2

Food that can be found in the campus… Most of the time we eat in the cafeteria, also not much of the choices. The roasted chicken stall outside of cafeteria wasn’t a pleasant taste.

page1

Food we’ve tried there… Pork noodle which is just average, fried ‘dong fen’, fried rice, toasted bread, pork steak, pad thai (fried ‘ho fan’ but the noodleis much harder) etc. Food price are more or less like Msia’s. Not cheap also eh~

The students learnt a lot from the talks given by various speakers. I did attend the first talk by Prof. Honda (obviously he’s a Japanese :) ). Can you spot me? :p

Christmas Dinner at El Migos

2009
12.26

Look who’s visiting us for Christmas?

Both of us were wearing shirts bought from Thailand. Both are in pairs but we didn’t wear in pairs. :p

Signature Japanese Pizza, and this time we have something new — Turkey Lasagna. They have 4 special menu for Christmas, and we chose the cheapest one(which is already RM28.80). :)

Mexican Cheesy Quesadillas, Chicken Cajun flavour. Actually forgot to take picture of it, so just use the photo taken previously. :p

The fish and chicken chop. We were already too full~ The smaller pics are of the Turkey Lasagna. The lasagna wasn’t really up to our expectation, not enough cheese too. But still a nice try.

The giant burger~ We asked them to cut into 4 parts.

Also the tempura tiger prawn sushi, a little not up to standard, guess they were too busy. It was jam pack of people~

Merry Christmas~  :D

Foot Massage

2009
12.25

IMG_4352

As our flight delayed for almost 3 hours, we went to try out the Thai’s famous foot massage. Didn’t have chance while still in Bangkok, and thus tried out this one in airport with double the charge compare to town area.

IMG_4354

The few students also having their foot massage. I was shocked to see a guy coming to serve me. All the others are ladies, where on earth did this guy came out? Quite uneasy but he’s very professional though.  The students commented they don’t feel much (pain) so I think the guy’s got more strength. :p

IMG_4360

They use wooden stick in massage of the acupuncture point. Not much pain, means I’m healthy? :p

IMG_4363

Upon finishing both my legs became pink elephant legs. I think this is the best service I’ve got in Thailand. :)   Am very not used to have a stranger serving me.  Yes, its a humble job, where you put down your pride.

Suddenly I thought of the washing of feet. I was unprepared and embarrassed when the massagist wanted to wash my feet, and so were the disciples. It was a different feeling and experience comparing to the washing of feet during the last supper. Those who wash the feet of others were humble, and I know, that I’ve not been serving as the Lord do.

Blessed Christmas to you, for our humble Lord, who serves with love, is born today.

Genuine Chicken Essence

2009
12.23

IMG_3847

Home cook chicken essence, prepared by sis specially for me. Yummy, especially the set which I think is remains of blood. :p  This is the best tonic for women, not for men. :p

IMG_3848

The special pot used to stew the chicken essence.

IMG_4410

Place whole chicken (without cutting into pieces) that is smashed in this pot, then put into the outer layer pot, and put into a big pot filled with water, heat with slow fire for 3-6 hours.

IMG_4408

The cooked chicken

IMG_4407

The essence. One whole chicken can only produce one small bowl of essence. Thus the chicken essence sold in market are actually containing very little of the actual essence.  Very big thanks to sis for taking the trouble in the effort to make me more healthy. She bought another pot for us to stew when we are free during weekends. Thanks again. :)

Piece of Art

IMG_4413

Found this at sis place, I thought its her artwork. But in fact, its Leanne’s!

IMG_4415

Of course she didn’t make these all by her own, but with the guidance and help from her teacher. I really loved this, its just so amazing.  I definitely can’t make out something like this.

IMG_4416

The artistic tree~

IMG_4419

The cute snail, the little flowers, and some parts can be twisted as they used tooth picks to fix it.

IMG_4411

And a photo frame

IMG_4424

The sun is so cute! Now I’m pretty sure Leanne’s gonna be an artist. :D
